Lee Weng Keat – La Salle Klang 1985
“Lee Weng Keat, aged 37, has been with BSLI(Ban Seng Lee) since 1991, where he initially joined the production
planning division and was subsequently transferred to the purchasing department. He is currently the
Operations Manager of BSLI. His main responsibilities include overseeing the development of new

achieve this, he needs to foster a good relationship with customers to ascertain their needs and
requirements. He previously worked in the production department of Hitachi Electronic Devices (S)

Lee Weng Keat, the God of Gambler among all our friends and schoolmates from La Salle Klang Old Boys. Many of us was his schoolmate from Standard One to Form five, i am one of them. This article, is a tribute to our old friend Lee Weng Keat of La Salle Klang year 1985. The above paragraph was the only information i can find about him in the Internet. He was the most famous student at La Salle Klang(1985) and he was also very famous among the Girl Schools too namely Convent Girl School Klang and MGS Klang. Yup, he is the real playboy cum Casanova of La Salle Klang year 1985, not me….hehee…..:)
I was with him at Singapore Hitachi Electronic Devices (S)Pte. Ltd for about 2 years before i left for further studies. He went to Hitachi Singapore with Ah Keong, a very close friends of ours. I still remember the first day i meet him accidentally at Singapore Hitachi. It was his first day reporting to work and to be assigned to his dormitory in Singapore. He and Ah Keong was designated to Geylang while i was staying at Teck Whye, near Chua Chu Kang and Pasir Panjang area. I like to visit them at their Geylang hostel often because Geyland was(and still is) a Redlight District in Singapore and there’s lots of pretty girls to see. Yes, ‘see only’, ‘no touch‘. We could’t afford it even though if we wanted to. We was working at a Electronic Factory with minimum wages, how can we afford such luxury at that time ?
Ok, enough said about Geylang. After i left Hitachi Singapore i continued my studies while working as an apprentice at a shipyard. Due to our working time difference(shift work), we seldom meet. But once in a while, Weng Keat, Ah Keong and me would get together for yamcha. This was when i was introduced to Shirley, Ah Keong Girl Friend at that time and i am glad to see that she(Shirley) is his(Ah Keong) wife today. Some would say that Ah keong and me was the most stupid ‘dunggu’ fella among our group of friends because we was the only two fella who was stupid enough to be so faithful to our Girl Friend till they become our Wifes today(and still are). But hey, i am not complaining and i am pretty sure Ah keong is having a great life too. Look, both of us are ‘happy go lucky’ and now we still have time to do what we like unlike some of our friends(you know who you are) who utter lame excuses to avoid our get together ‘yamcha’ session.
Back to our old friend Lee Weng Keat. His first Girl Friend, Leong Oi Lan(LOL as we would called her) from Convent Girl School Klang. We basically went through our High School years with her. She was a brightly, bubbly and the sweetest girl i’ve ever known. This Lee Weng Keat has all the luck, Girls and Gambling. He has the best girl by his side and he seldom(read never) loses when he gambles. Yes, he has such luck and many of us who knew him, won’t argue this statement. While Weng Keat was in Singapore, Leong(LOL) would visit him and i still remembered Leong once said, “The tongsampah outside of his hostel is full of kotex and condoms” saying Weng Keat is living at a redlight district. Yeah, we surely had fun during those days.
Then life moves on. Ah Keong departed to Japan and Weng Keat went back to Malaysia to join our assistant head prefect of La Salle Klang 1985, Richard Ngiam in his moulding industry. Richard Ngiam Tee Wee was another close friend of ours. In fact, he was kinna like our Gang Leader at that time. He was the richest among all of us so he would pay for our meals(thank you
)during our yamcha session till lately where this ‘Pay Master’ role fall onto Datuk Michale Tio hand, another crazy fella in our group. Ohh Yes, i have many stories to ‘tell’ about them and i will pay my ‘Tributes’ to each and everyone of them since i am so free now, LoL!!!
I lost touch with them when i was struggling in between my work and studies in Singapore. I was from a poor family and i have to support my studies through my wages. I was told ‘they’ was enjoying at Hilton KL every night. Eric Loo Say Keow, David Ng was among the fews who partied with them, beside Weng Keat. I was told during that time, most(read ‘all’) of them would lose to Weng Keat if gamble and they gambles often, namely ‘Cho Dai Dee’, ‘Russian Poker’ and ‘Mahjung’. I was told, some of them actually enjoy losing to Weng Keat because they enjoyed playing(read ‘gambling’) with him.Weng Keat not only has such luck with us but to almost any ‘gambling stuff’ you can name on this earth. He was one of those lucky fella who made millions in gambling. Like the wiseman once said, as a gambler you can be lucky for 30 years but if you are unlucky for 1 year or even 1 day, you are gone. Weng Keat met his unlucky fate and he loses a lot of money. And he owns Ah Longs so much until he have to go into hiding.
Well, where ever you are now Weng Keat, we misses you. We would like to gamble with you again even though we know we would lose to you. I don’t know about others but to me, “Money cannot buy friendship and friendship cannot be bought by money”. All of us have went through our childhood together, basically we grew up together. We know you would be back one fine day and by then, we might, just might beat you in MahJung or Cho Dai Dee. Hey heck, we might even win you in chasing girls…hahaa…..:)
Best of Luck to you Weng Keat.
Regards
Jeff
