Fishing at Bangkok, Thailand :- Part 1 – Bungsamran(BSR)
Worst day of FISHING is better than best day at WORK?????…I think i need to rephrase this quote after my fishing trip at Bangkok….![]()

Mike, EK Wong and myself at Bungsamran, located at Soi Navamin 42 | Bungkum Bangkapi Bangkok 10240, Bangkok, Thailand
Fishing plabuks at BSR is one experience that an angler won’t forget easily esp for Mike when he saw the ‘bomb’ that they uses there. Mike suggested to EK Wong to try this ‘bomb’ at Fishing Valley, Semenyih, FW3 or Kulai pond….![]()
So, by using this ‘bomb’ that the Thai fishing guide has prepared for us, we fought plabuks after plabuks ranging from 20 kgs to 50 kgs. This is how we fight the first few plabuks…YeeeHaaa!!!

“Gaya mau ada, Standard mau jaga”!!!

Then, after the 5th plabuks…still boleh tahan..
…and this is after the 10th plabuks…..*praying pls don’t bite, pls don’t bite*…..![]()
This is after the 20th plabuk…!!!

Funny to think how i managed to ’survive’ such a fishing ordeal arranged by the Thai Fishing Guide for us, 6 solid days of fishing(3 days for EK Wong and Mike). All i remembered was, lots of Panadol(painkiller) and ‘massage parlour’..[:D]..After each fishing trip at BKK, my hand, leg and body will ache like hell and in order to be ‘prepared’ for the next day trip, i’ll have to swallow 2 to 4 bijik of panadol to help me ease the pain in my entire body. The Thai Fishing Guide recommended me some ‘massage parlour’(no hanky panky type,…well, even got i also can’t do anything cos d*ck oso ache[:D]) to help ease my body pain and it actually did help. Age really is catching up with me pluss lack of exercise, fuuuh…*sakit*!!! If this where to happened 10 years ago, i bet i wouldn’t have needed all those Panadol and ‘massage parlour’….*haiz*….
Speaking of age, Mike was the oldest amongst us all and this oldman actually did quite well fighting all those monster fish at Bangkok. To my surprise, Mike and EK Wong did not shed away when comes to their turn to fight those plabuks. Yeap, we took turns fighting those plabuks. We uses 3 rods all together, 2 for plabuks and 1 for siamese carps. We numbered ourself as in fireman drills, 1, 2 and 3….to see whos turn issit to fight the fish irregardless of which rods(once you hold the rod, no more assistant/help, you gotto fight till the end). This is when the ‘fun part’ happened….every time EK Wong turn to fight, it turn out to be a Patin or small plabuks so we ‘teased’ him till kingdom comes saying if he wanna fish Patin, nonid come Bangkok, Klang River also got many, foc somore….hahahaa………

Maybe this is the punishment he deserved for getting drunk so early in the afternoon…..

…and he really knows how to enjoy his food….and the food at BSR is really good esp the pineapple fried rice and tomyam…hmmm, finger licking good!!!
Pineapple fried rice

BSR Tomyam

EK Wong enjoying his meal and beers in between fights with his Patin…Opss, i meant plabuks…..
The overall ‘Champion’ for this trip is Mike cos he landed the biggest plabuks among us all…..

Mike even managed to land one by hooking on its tail. This was went he shouted “Very Big, veryyyy biiiig fiiish”!!!. Plabuks caught by foul hooking fights 20 times stronger…..

The trick to getting the plabuks as shown by the Thai fishing guide is to use the correct mixture of hong/dedak. John will consistently ‘charm’ the spot with his secret recipe hong/dedak mixture in order for us to get strike after strike.
When someone ask you to “Please bring the packet of hong/dedak to me”, they actually meant the ‘whole packet’ as in a guni sack, not those ’small packets’ we uses over here….

The Thai Fishing Guide prepared all the rigs for us. He has a special way to tie the mono shockleader to braided lines. This Knot is indeed very strong as we’ve caught countless of huge plabuks with it without line breakage and this knot allows us to cast out smoothly without ‘tangling’ with our rod guides…..
The Knot…..

We ended our day by having dinner together at a nice little restaurant located near our hotel at Chatuchak. They serve one of the best Tomyam in town, one sip of this ’superb’ tomyam will clear all block nose and body pain!!!

After first day of torture at BSR, we are set to go to Boon Ma Barramundi farm. The receptionist at the hotel we stayed must be wondering if it was an earthquake that night which happened to be our ’snooring’ esp EK Wong and me….hehee
…EK Wong said my snooring was about 120dB on the decibel scale and i told him his snooring was off the ritcher scale and best of all, we both slept in one room….hahaa…..![]()
Talking about sleep, yesterday was the best sleep i had in a week!!! Miss my little puppies(Shih Tzu) and my old faithful bed sooo much!!! Now i am refresh and my batteries fully charge…..![]()
We woke up at about 7am(Thailand time) that morning(9th Jan 2010). Take bath, wash face, brush tits gedebak, gedebuk…we went down for breakfast at about 7.30am. The Thai fishing guide came and join us at about 7.45am. He ‘advice’ us to get some ’special’ local handcrafted lures at a local tackle shop first before going to Boon Ma. John told us to stand by this lure in case the barramundi at Boon Ma is not ‘biting’…i told myself, “WTF, if the siakap is not biting, what makes them bite this Thailand handcrafted lure????…this boggle my mind…..![]()

After about an hour drive from our hotel at Chatuchak, we reach the local tackle shop. Mike, EK Wong and me browse through the entire shop, looking for something ‘extra-ordinary’ which we didn’t find. We saw some Taiwan made G Loomis rod blanks and i ‘tested’ it out. It’s a medium heavy blank with good backbone support so i asked the shopkeeper how much and she replied “2000 bath”. I browse through the entire lots of blanks and asked the shopkeeper again, “How much for the entire lot of blanks”….she look at me with bulging eyes and say, “Wait, i call my boss”…..![]()
EK Wong and Mike was looking at some cheap lures on offer while i was brought to their store room to look for more blanks. The boss of this tackle shop came with a ledger in his hand. He introduced himself as a Mr Kent. We talk a little and i asked him again, “How much for the entire lot of this G Loomis blanks?”. Mr Kent flip through his ledger and came out with a figure…”2500 bath per piece” he said. There’s about 50 pcs of blanks in his store. I told him his shopkeeper quoted me 2000bath per piece earlier and he said “She misquoted”….
…not wanting to get into an argument with this tackle shop boss, i pretended to flip through a few more blanks and head towards Mike and EK Wong, joining them searching for cheap lures. EK Wong bought some soft bodied ‘weedless’ frogs which hit me instantly, “EK Wong DON”T do haruan fishing!!! Why on earth he buy so many frogs for?”……and it was sold at 50 bath(about Rm5.00) per piece)…so i ask him, “Are you sure you want to buy so many frogs”, he said, “Yeah”. He also bought a lure keeping waist pouch. EK Wong asked the shopkeeper earlier too which she quoted him 180bath(about Rm18.00). At the cashier where EK was about to pay, Mr Kent the tackle shop owner told EK that the box was 280bath, another misquote from the shopkeeper!!!
…![]()
EK Wong gave me the ‘waterfish’ look and he promptly paid the bill. Yeah, EK Wong is a bigtime waterfish too when comes to buying fishing stuff…..hahahaa……..![]()
To add fuel to his injury, i told EK that those ‘weedless frogs’ are selling at Rm2.50 per piece at my shop at Port Klang and the price is still negotiable….hahahaaa…….![]()

We reach Boon Ma fishfarm at about 10am that day. Me and Mike got a few pieces of the Thailand Handcrafted Lures while EK Wong ended up buying lots of ‘weedless frogs’. According to EK, he already has enough hard body lures in his tackle box. We started fishing at about 11am that day….![]()
Mike was the first to strike on his 2nd cast with the Abu Island 2 spoon. After about 2 minutes of fight, tuuuuuuussss, line break!!! Then it was Ek Wong turn, he strike a barra with some of his al cheappo lure and again, after about 2-3minutes of fight, line snap!!!
I started with my 14th footer Surfcasting rod on lure and hit a strike on the very first cast…..![]()
Streeeeeeeeeeeeettttt…this fish stripe my line like a 2-3kgs paypond barramundi which i always get at Sealion paypond at Port Klang, “Typical paypond siakap fight” i told myself…..![]()

HuH???…It was not a barramundi, it was a Tilapia!!! A 2kgs++ tilapia that fights like a 2-3kgs Port Klang paypond siakap???

EK Wong was shouting and laughing at me!!! He was shouting, “If wanna fish Tilapai, nonid come Bangkok, Port Klang also have many!!!”….serve me right for laughing and teasing him on his Patin run at BSR yesterday…..![]()
